Steve Bartylla on Mock Scrapes
TOD
Today’s tip of the day is simply yet another hammering home of the value of using lick branches & mock scrapes for management and hunting. My goal is that everyone of you embraces, believes in and uses the snot out of lick branches and full blown mock scrapes from this point forward. If this doesn’t do that, I don’t know what will.
Just watch the videos. They say it all. The stand is just off the right hand side of the screen. Hanging this one lick branch did next to nothing for drawing deer in, but I’ve got somewhere over 10 different bucks working it during daylight, all focusing their attentions away from the stand, stopping naturally at 18ish yards and offering outstanding shot angles. All it cost me was 4 U nails (fence post nails) and less than 5 minutes of time.

Tomorrow’s TOD will show why I put the lick branch in that location and how I am turning that “meh” spot into an extremely low impact, high odds AM & PM setup. As you most all no doubt already realize, coming up with low impact, high odds AM stands is far, far more challenging than coming up with low impact, high odds setups for the PMs.
