Bedding Area in a Bag

Over the past decade or so I have experimented with a variety of warm season grass plantings. All of them worked great as whitetail bedding areas in the fall months but once the brutal winter weather with its snow and high winds took over, some plantings did not fare so well. They would simply get flattened to the ground where they would remain until spring came and brought new growth.

When I teamed up with Kitchen Seed Company headquartered in Arthur, Illinois to test, develop and market a new line of food plot seed blends, one of my primary objectives was to come up with a warm season native grass blend that would remain standing through tough weather conditions for use in creating whitetail bedding areas. Through much research and testing we developed a product called “Bedding In A Bag”.  We looked at numerous varieties of various warm season grass species to come up with this blend. While the exact varieties are protected for obvious reasons, I can say that the blend includes Big Bluestem, Indian grass and switchgrass. It will mature at a height of 6’-8’ and provide exceptional bedding cover for a variety of game including whitetails. Most importantly, it should remain standing through harsh conditions which would lay other species flat to the ground.
